Thought I would write about another one of our servers today, and that's the PowerEdge 2800. It's a dual CPU system that takes Xeon processors. Depending on what generation it is, some of them can take dual-core CPUs also. I enjoy working on these machines, but I hate lifting them. They're heavy beasts, but wheni t comes to working on them, there's a comfortable solidity to them. What's kind of interesting about them is that the expansion slots aren't on the motherboard itself. Instead, there's a riser that's removed from the machine where expansion cards can be installed. It's then reinserted and locked into place, with a great sense of authority. I think it's designed this way to make room for the two hot swap power supplies, which are nice to have.
